When you've submitted your resume? I wonder how acceptable this is...sending the resume through a career builder type site...is it ok to contact the employer? This waiting stinks!
Generally speaking, they say 'no phone calls' and they mean it. And honestly, calling really isn't going to change anything. They aren't going to put your name at the top of the list just because you called.
Unless it specifies "no calls", it is OK to call. Many times you have some HR person sitting there who hasn't even looked at 150 resumes they received.
It certainly can help separate you from the pack.
There is nothing wrong with placing one phone call and hopefully you can get a live person.

You gain more appeal as a candidate when you don't call
Unless the hiring manager, pres or HR is your personal friend or family, you absolutely never call. EVER. IF they're interested they will call YOU. If you call you will appear desperate, immature and unfamiliar with business protocol. Take an anxiety pill if you have to but don't call. They might lowball you on the salary if they feel you're desperate.
Well I have done it and gotten an interview that way.
WTP of sending out resumes and never following up?
I wouldn't suggest if it says "no phone calls", but IMO there is nothing wrong with calling one time.
Look, if a company wants to interview you, they're going to let you know. They aren't going to sit in their offices staring at the phone, waiting for you to call them.
One major employer where I am has a statement that says calling indicates you cannot follow directions (they do not specifically say "don't call", but say you will be contacted if they are interested)
