Thanks all. I'm going to chose to go with a range. I think it's the safest - and it does not require me to make any COL type statements. I also think it's more than fair - and sets the salary negotiation up to be a negotiation - which is what I want.

I think the other reason that this might be an issue for me is I had a bad experience with salary in my current job as I was promoted internally. The rule for this is that you go to the bottom of the pay scale in the new role *if* it is higher than what you made before. This is regardless of experience, job fit, knowledge/skills/abilities, education, etc. It's been 5 years and I'm still angry at this - because I should have been able to start closer to mid point as an external candidate would have with my same background.

So the last thing I want is to have this sort of thing happen again! I'm not wanting to be paid something outrageous - merely fair compensation for my labor
