The criminology/sociology majors I know have either gone to grad school to be lawyers, are security guards and a home health aide. Not glam by any means.
Unfortunately, it's one of those degrees that has been promoted as a means of trying to remake essentially blue-collar jobs into white-collar jobs. But the pay for jobs like prison guards and probation officers hasn't increased so most people with these degrees find themselves struggling to pay off their college debt.
My point is that even in a bad economy there are openings and when the economy is in a better shape there will be more openings. And my degree will be from the number 3 public school in the state and most employers in the area hire students from that college.
