Job requirement for a language translation company:
"-The candidate’s spouse, siblings, parents, and children all MUST BE US CITIZENS"
(Also his uncles, aunts, five generation of grandparents on both sides, ex-wives and girlfriends and pets must all be US Citizens too)
Not even CIA requires this which they can and I am pretty sure it is illegal. Position itself doesn't require any government clearance. Weird.
I think that is legal. People who are not here legally are not supposed to be hired. Of course, some people are here on Visas (and are not supposed to be hired) and some people have green cards and are resident aliens. Not sure how that works for resident aliens. And then there are those on H1-B visas and are not US citizens but are ok to be employed here but they have to go through a process.
It may be legal but it is by no means smart, nor a guarantee of security, if that's what they're trying to accomplish. The CIA example is a good one. I'm sure they hire foreign nationals if only to know more about the countries/regimes they are dealing with or spying on.
Also, thorough security clearance checks take care of most risks. You can have a local boy who is a bigger danger to the state (see McVeigh, Timothy) than an immigrant.
Perhaps this company is taking the patriotism thing to another level?

In short, not sure.
How does that apply to the applicants relatives? That's what the OP is about.
You obviously never heard of Title VII which prohibits discrimination based on citizenship/nationality along with several other things. Only Federal and State Governments are allowed to require US Citizenship and only for sensitive government positions. Even so there is no requirement for your family to be US citizens unless it is a top clearance position. This is not about whether you are here legally to work or not.

I guess they want to make sure no one came here illegally and had what some might call an anchor baby?
I know that's a hot issue in some places and ticks people off to think people are coming illegally and having children on US soil who then become automatic US Citizens.
mistygrl092, you are totally missing the issue here. Since when do translation companies have the law enforcement authority to implement federal immigration laws? Plus, US Constitution allows US citizenship to children born on US soil - period. There is nothing illegal about it.

Um, confused. If you already knew this, I don't get why you asked the question.

I have no idea about translation companies. I am well aware that children born on US soil become US citizens. While there is nothing illegal about THIS, their parents often come here illegally.
