Started a part time job toward the last of Oct..., trained on it/pretty much got the hang of the job...Heres the sticky part....the jobs involves working on a computer graphic system and the system keeps shutting down on me..... I had a software program to shut down on me during work......restarted the program..but could not get it to work......Also I was told that certain settings on the system were incorrect.....Either way it doesnt make me look like I am doing my job and that I dont know what I am doing...I write up problems to the supervisor and his supervisor...and to an extent they are trying to troublehshoot the problem...however I really need some encouraging words to say to my supervisor...to make him think I am concerned.....which I am....Just dont want to lose the job.

Is there technical support at the company? It may be a compatibility issue with other programs on the computer. Don't give up - trying contacting support for the software manufacture. Stay positive and be proactive to make sure you are doing all you can to resolve the problem.

I agree. Also, if possible, document all the attempts for fixing the problem. That way, it shows that you are being active and not just faffing around and making excuses. I know in one job I had I was a supervisor and we were working with editing software. However, the computers were too old to handle the software and would crash quite often. Eventually, they gave us enough grant money to buy new computers to handle the software, so hang in there.

Document what you were doing when the problem occurred, and every possible aspect of the problem. That will help tell the IT people what may be causing the problem. Stay on top of it, make sure your supervisor knows you are trying your best and that you need this job, and will do almost anything to keep it or help resolve the problem. It does not look good to management when a new employee has trouble with a computer that other employees have not had trouble with. Find out if other people are having the same problem, and try to get to the bottom of it. The best employees are usually the one who never have to worry about losing their job.
