I live on the shoreline just north of Point Beach about 13 miles north of Manitowoc.

There are times when we are 15 degrees cooler than Green Bay, especially in May thru June. Once the lake begins to warm up the lake effect begins to moderate and it is common to be only 5 degrees cooler than inland.

Sturgeon Bay temps tend to settle somewhere between the other two.

Yes Port Washington and Manitowoc right by the lake are sometimes 20-30 degrees cooler or warmer than just miles west. Now these are extremes most days it's 5-10 degrees difference with the occasional 15 degree difference.

I used to travel for work and I used to go right near the lake in Manitowoc and it would be 80 degrees by the freeway and foggy and 60 by the lake. I asked a guy once about Port Washington since we were looking at a house there and quickly he replied "Never again, way too cold" even in summer. A lot of times there is a breeze out of the west but also there will be a breeze off the lake and it will be freezing in summer.

However we are entering the season where it's cooler than lake temp so in fall and winter there will be days where it's raining in Port and Snowing in Saukville.

I am a boater and being out on the big lake a lot I can tell you Port And Manitowoc are too cold cities in summer and warmer just a bit in winter.

Port and Manitowoc are milder in the winter by far compared to areas off to the northwest. The Northwoods have cooler low temperatures in the summer, 35-50F range is not uncommon at all, but 30's are less common. I prefer winter with actual consistent snow cover, not slop freeze/thaw cycles like you see more frequently these days closer to Lake Michigan. Anything above 80F is too hot in the summer.

Weather seems to be more 'all over the place' as time marches. Climate change is here and nothing is certain. Right here 4th overly wet year in a row.
