True, but the educators I know are downright embarrassed about that - it wasn't their idea - and it's been overturned. I am quite pleased with our public schools overall.

But it will take a long time to live that one down!

It just goes to show you the of people that Kansans put their trust in and look up too. Luckily Kathleen Sebelius put the smack down on the board of education. LOL

I agree with you that many of the people you mentioned are completely ridiculous so I thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in...

The concept that the dinosaurs and humans could have walked together seems possible (not saying it absolutely happened because really none of us knows) but the concept that the earth is 2000 years old is ludicrous! Afterall we have documented history of the world for at least 6000 years of history thanks to the Sumerians, Babylonians and even the Jews... So it baffles me to think some one with any academic clout would agree.

In regards to carbon dating it may be right however I remember reading in the past few years that they found a "fossilized" cowboy boot. Cowboy boots didn't even exist until 150 years ago in good ol' Olathe, KS. So..

Evolution is hardly based entirely on fact. There are many scientific principles that are absolute but the big bang etc. has yet to be proven. Do we take science out of the public schools? Heck no! Should we assume that evolution is absolute? once again, no thanks>

More people around here should think like that.

Default Lived in Lenexa

I lived in Lenexa, and boy, did Johnson County irritate the s*** out of me! I had never lived anywhere before where at the gym and at the grocery store I would be asked what church my wife and I went to! I know that in Kansas, it's weird to be 25 and not married with kids, but sometimes it happens!

The company that I worked for had their office in Lenexa (a national company, that's all I'm gonna say) and the environment was MORE then conservative. People talked openly about church (not just where they went, but who had the best pastor, what church is best in Overland Park, etc.) and my manager even had a bible verse taped to her desk. Needless to say, it was uncomfortable for me!

I used to say that "I was the only registered Democrat in Kansas"...glad to know there are still some more out there!

At my work, several people have bible verses in their email signature. And they are scary ones talking about burning in hell and stuff.

Hang in there!

The working environment you described is par for the course around here.

Haven't you spent time in Lawrence or KCK? There's tons of Blues and Obama-lovers there.

When I lived there, I went to Lawrence for work often and had to go to KCK occassionally...I went to Grocery Stores all over KS, MO, and IA (even NE), so I spent most of my time in rural areas with maybe a population of 20,000 in the entire county....

But Yeah, I am aware of Lawrence being Liberal, and I figured that KCK was.

When I was young I and our mom were involved in the county Democrats. She was a volunteer for JFK and I started for Dan Glickman and Jimmy Carter. There were always some us around.
