Hi all,

I'm making a trip to Asheville this weekend for Fanaticon and I'm looking for a cheap place to stay close to the city center. Any suggestions on a place close to the downtown scene that is definitely under $100 per night? What are some can't miss things there?

I wasn't sure what fanaticon was ... now I know. They have on the website listings of hotels in the area that have rates for this event.

There is another hotel downtown - not sure what the name is now, used to be a Days Inn - it seems really gross though, even though I've never been there before. Maybe someone else can chime in on the name of the hotel.

The one right on Patton? That's the Downtown Inn... it does look nasty! But
it might be cheap. All the other ones are over the OP's budget of $100.

As for what to do here... if you get in on Friday afternoon, the drum circle at Pritchet Park should not be missed! Someone into comics would have to enjoy that! Have fun!

Oh, man. I can't tell you how disappointed I am that I'm going to miss the drum circle.

What about Asheville restaurants? Any hidden gems?

Tons of great restaurants here!!! Lets see... sticking with just downtown, and keeping your budget in mind...
The Laughing Seed Cafe on Wall Street (vegetarian)
Tupelo Honey on College Street (southern)
The Noodle Shop on Pack Square (chinese)
Jack of the Wood on Patton (Irish Pub)
Early Girl Eatery on Wall Street (breakfast all day)

Have a good weekend!

Thanks for the suggestions. Had a great trip and tried Laughing Seed and Tupelo. The Laughing Seed was fantastic. Had the mushroom enchiladas and loved it.
