Lake James State Park near Morganton (camp, beach, parks)

I looked on the website for this park, but can anyone tell me if My family can go there and NOT camp and just enjoy the day on the sand and in the water?? I know they have lakes that do, but I am having a time finding them.

The park website leads one to believe that it is a good daytripping place
http://ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/laja/home.html (broken link) It's been several years since I visited; once the area began to be developed I lost interest in hanging out there; but they had a beach and roped off area for swimmers.

Google "NC State Parks" and the first link they give is the state park system. From there, you should be able to find info on all the parks.
