Discount home furnishings retailer Homegoods is opening a store adjacent to T.J. Maxx #1125. Belk #115's home store has operated in the space.

J. C. Penney Company, Incorporated, announced recently it will be closing 130 to 140 stores to return to profitability.

Could J. C. Penney #2038 be in danger of closing?

I am hearing speculation RadioShack may close its remaining stores nationwide as it files for another bankruptcy. Has RadioShack #1912 had any clearance sales or a store closing sale lately?

I would not mind seeing a sports and outdoors store at Boone Mall. Academy Sports + Outdoors and Dunham's Sports could be candidates.

Sage Sport limped along for many years at Boone Mall and finally closed. With Footsloggers closing temporarily in downtown... lease issues?... maybe they would consider moving, but probably not in as big a space as the JC Penny space. The students and "hardcore" outdoors enthusiasts in the Boone area seem to prefer local businesses with flavor over the chains. Dunham's might take a look, but they are already in N. Wilkesboro. Boone probably isn't a big enough market for Academy.
