I am interested in finding out more about Brevard public shool system. We will be moving there next year (2007) with 2 children (middle and high school grades) to work and to eventually retire in the area. I was told that Carolina Day School would be a better option for education (more Advance Courses, better College placement options). Are Hendersonville or Asheville public schools better? Any sugestions? Thank you!

We visited Brevard a couple of years ago. We met a woman there whose grandchildren were attending the Montessori school in Rossman and the Brevard Academy (free Charter school). She thought the Montessori school was good but she positively raved about Brevard Academy. Brevard schools have excellent NC ABC test scores. The economy there seemed dependent on tourism and somewhat depressed since the large cigarette paper factory had closed. Generations of residents had been employed there and I think the economy was dependent on that factory. We liked Brevard a lot, especially the community feel, library, very friendly people and community park. Ultimately, I was concerned about my economic options there.

Hi alice_61. Thanks for the info! We felt that the economy should improve as more "baby boomers" retire to the area. We work in healthcare, and we think that will be a growing need. We were a litle concerned with the loss of three companies in the last few years, but we fell in love with the surroundings.
