Hi all - can you tell me if Downtown/Biltmore Village/Restaurants are open on Thanksgiving Day? I'm bringing my mother there for the holiday - My Dad died last Thanksgiving, so Mom would like some distractions for the day. We are spending the night Wed and Thurs. Thanksgiving was my Dad's favorite day and dinner, so Mom wants nothing of turkey or classic Thanksgiving food, etc this year. Think we can pull that off in Asheville?

I know Biltmore House is open, but shopping therapy or entertainment might be better for her. Grateful for any suggestions!

Well, Biltmore would be my #1 suggestion, so do reconsider! It will be decorated for Christmas by then and is just a sight to behold, truly lovely

Maybe this link will help you find other possibilities - Downtown Asheville NC Guide

To avoid the traditional turkey dinner, take your mom out for some nice Italian

This place will be open: http://www.fioresasheville.com/

just remembered. my son and family took me to Hendersonville and we had a wonderful meal in the Irish Pub. There were lots of retirees there, and the street is lined with shopping of all sorts.

sorry about your Dad. I lost mine in 2002 and mourn his loss to this day.

I know Cracker Barrel is open on Thanksgiving. I am not sure about the menu though. Also make sure you check on times for your meal when you pick a restaurant. Many have dinner very early and are closed by 4 pm. We ran into that a few years back.

Thanks, everybody! I appreciate the suggestions and condolences. We rented a condo just to be safe. Now we have a kitchen, so if we can't find a restaurant then we'll cook something Italian! Might do that anyway, as long as it doesn't seem quiet and lonely for Mom.

By Biltmore House do you mean the Inn at the Biltmore Estates? Or one of the restaurant sin the "village"? You could volunteer at a shelter. I think hotel restaurants would generally be open but many others not.
