Day 1: Well it's 8:00 AM and I am snowed in!! I'm not even above 1800' and we have over 2 inches and it's coming down pretty hard. Here's what it looks like in Blowing Rock, 2000' above me:
Look so pretty Tracey, and I always consider this a good few days to hunker down with a good book, some sewing, wrapping, and as long as we don't lose power, I'm good with it.
Down in fairview we woke up to about 5 inches. Its starting to melt now but tomorrow is going to be nasty when it gets so cold tonight. Plus they are saying we will get more snow tonight.
Quilterchick! I've got tons of small christmas sewing projects I keep needing to get done. Today is the perfect day for it! haha.
Up on the mountain in Leicester (I am house sitting for a friend) at about 2800' we had a solid three inches on the ground. On the road that leads to and from the house (the road that is the main reason I bought tire chains), I saw some idiot's Jeep in a ditch. Guy had huge mud tires, lift, the works, and I guess he thought it made him invincible. I just smiled to myself as I cruised safely down the hill with my chains on. This was the first time I've used them, and they worked beautifully. Especially getting out of the driveway, which is WAY too long to shovel.
I can't wait to see how this pans out. Right now, it's all wet and nasty in Asheville, but hopefully the temperatures will drop and freeze that stuff up. I know, I know, it'll make the roads worse. Well, I don't mind. Plus, I want this stuff to stick around for a while, and right now, it's gonna need to get a good bit colder for that to happen. Great that we get a nice little snowfall before Christmas though! I always love December snow, because winter is still fresh, and the snow is exciting. When it snows in March, most people are not so excited, but right now, everyone seems to be enjoying it. Especially the wreckers, man I bet those guys are making a killing!
HELP!!!! I want to post a pic and I don't know how!!!!

I live in west Asheville and woke up this morning to about 2 inches on the ground. It didn't snow much today but didn't get above freezing either so most of the snow has stuck around. I expect at least a couple more inches overnight.
I don't understand how a little bit of snow shuts so much down in these mountains - i.e. schools close, churches shut down services or people feel "snowed in." It happens with only a few inches. I find it no big deal.
Here's a couple of cell phone pictures from this morning in South Asheville. The snow only amounts to 4" max in the pictures.
