I am moving to take up a job in Elmsford NY. I do not know anything about the housing / living situation in this area. My family consists of me and wife, and our dog.
I am looking to rent a 2 BR / 2 BA townhome / condo and have a rental budget of around 2500 dollars per month. I would like the commute distance to be not more than 20-25 minutes. Area safety is our number one concern. Any ideas in which areas I should look. Any suggestions?
I really appreciate all your responses and thoughts.
In a town, I am looking for a family oriented atmosphere (versus single hotspots), good choice of international cuisine options and connectivity to Manhattan. I might need to travel to Manhattan once or twice a week.
Tarrytown or Irvington should work for you. I believe the Metro North has a stop in Irvington, but double-check on that. Both are close to Elmsford, are pretty safe and family oriented. Good luck!!
I am looking at condos in Yonkers. Does anybody have any thoughts / experiences with living in Yonkers area.
The specific buildings I am looking at are --
66 Main -- 66 main street, Yonkers, NY 10701
Hudson Park -- 1 Alexander Street, Yonkers NY 10701
The Hudson Park apartments/condos are very nice, and they are convenient, as the MetroNorth line is directly behind them. Also, there is a decent enough walking area along the riverside with a couple of cafes/bars. The 66 Main Street building is pretty new, and the area around that would have more traffic. In terms of Yonkers, they would both be fine, though there are occasionally vagrants around the train station. I haven't really seen many on the riverfront, though.
With a budget of $2500, I would look at Hastings on Hudson. You can certainly find condos within your price range, and the area is extremely safe. It is far nicer than Yonkers, in general, and it is about 15 minutes to Elmsford.
Hartsdale is also very close to Elmsford and it is pretty safe. It would put you near Central Ave which offers plenty of shopping and dining options, and also very close to White Plains which offers even more shopping and dining. I know there is a Metro North stop there in case you need to go down to the city and it has that small town feel around the train station.
