I was born and raised in Clarksburg. Grew up in North View, graduated from old Victory High School, and attended WVU for one year. Worked six years at WBOY-TV Ch 12, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1964 where I still live. Most of career was in local TV, but a little time spent in radio, casinos, and an ad agency. A couple of work transfers had me in Laredo, Texas, Reno, NV, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, for a while also. Now we are trying to sell our Santa Fe style home in Vegas and move to Albuquerque (actually to a new community in old Bernalillo right outside Albq.). Recently retired from over 13 years with the State of Nevada Employment Security Division.

Congrats on your recent retirement. I live in Bridgeport (out in the country past Hinkle & Deegan Lakes). I took a drive over to North View last evening to find a home where friends of mine are purchasing. How ironic! I was raised at Camden in Lewis County but have lived in Harrison Co. for 10 years. My brother-in-law, D. Harrison used to work for WBOY about the same time frame as you and a friend & coworker of mine that lives in Stonewood, WV, C. Payton (Harrison Co. native) worked there also. Mr. Payton remembers a Mr. Lyman, Ellyson & Furner. The Hidaway was a popular spot in those days. These 2 gentlemen would be close your age, Perhaps you may have worked with one of them.

My husband is wanting to take me to Vegas as his sister lives there and I have never been. Someday maybe. Best of luck in your relocation ......hope you enjoy your new home.

Sorry, I don't remember those names. I worked there 1959-1964. Pete Lyman, Milt Furner, and Paul Ellison were all friends of mine. I know Pete and Milt are gone now, but not sure about Paul. I'm still in touch with Frances Basile and Jack See who I also worked with there. Now and then I see Gene Petitto when I visit Cksb.

Once I struck up a conversation with a couple at the old Stardust Hotel here in Vegas who told me they were from WV. When I asked what town they said, oh you've probably never heard of it. I said try me, and it happened to be Clarksburg. Then I asked what part of town...it was North View. When I asked them what street they about choked. They lived only a couple of blocks from the house where I grew up.

I lived on N. 19th in North View for a year or so. Cool little neighborhood; very tucked away from the rest of town, which was both positive and negative.

I lived on Pride Ave. one house from the corner of 17th between the Greathouses and the Williamses. The house is no longer there. I moved out of North View in 1959, and out of Clarksburg in 1964.

Enjoy the Clarksburg song.

Some folks think they're lucky,
If they're born in old Kentucky,
Or in ten, ten, Tennessee,

Say nothing could be finer,
Than to be from Carolina,
Where the sentiments don't mean a thing to me,

I'll never be found, Alabama bound,
Get me right, just put this down,

I got my opinion,
I'm a thorough West Virginian,
And Clarksburg’s my hometown.

I know this is an old post but just wanted to say I was born and raised in Clarksburg ...didn't leave till I was 32 yrs old. Now live in a VERY small town of Staunton IL. I lived in Chestnut Hills (Fredrick St) for 10 years as a child, then moved to Adamston (Junkins Ave), then got married and moved to Summit Park. Many times I will go through the net and look at pics of my hometown. Some days I miss it and some days you couldn't get me back there. But no matter how much teasing and ribbing I take...I'm a West by GOD Virginian through and through!!!
