I've visited the DC area a few times but am too chicken to drive on that beltway (I went to DC on bus trips twice when I lived in Frederick,MD and went a couple times with my parents when I was younger). I couldn't drive there--don't know how people do it without having a heart attack or at least a huge PANIC attack!

lol appal- I didn't learn to drive until 19 for same reason-- nyc is nutso! it can be done at a price. I love dc's history. My fave little nook is the jefferson memorial (too bad it doesn't have a couch so I can read a book ).
restaurants are a cornicopia of new adventures, museums are world class, and if you're staying in a motel try to get one close to the trolley pick up points. that trolley is the best bang for the buck when sightseeing- runs all day, no parking to worry about, takes you to enough places to exhaust your brain before you come full circle. It also keep you from straying into dangerous neighborhoods unawares.
