Has anyone driven McKendree Rd from Prince, WV to Thurmond, WV or vice versa recently?
I've seen some pics and videos on it and know it's bad. For some strange and stupid reason I'm wanting to drive it and do it in my car at that. Thanks!
I've done it. I don't know if i'd trust a car to get through it all. You should be fine from Thurmond to Thayer, but past Thayer towards Prince, the road really deteriorates and turns into little more than a trail. There are several creek crossings, as well as some good sized mud areas to deal with. Its definitely a road for 4x4s. If you actually want to see whats left of the McKendree Hospital, then you'll need to take a side trail down to it. I do not recommend taking a standard vehicle down to it.
EDIT: I used a Buick Rainier when I did it and hiked down to the hospital site.
Yours was one of the videos I watched, you did a nice job on that! I think the car part
is out. I wonder if I could rent a four wheeler in the area and do it that way or does anyone
even rent four wheelers? What's left of the old McKendree Hospital, just the foundation?

Just bits of the foundation and some stairs. Nature has done a good job reclaiming the site
Today I drove this road.
I have a 2020 Equinox and made it without much trouble. It is rough and it is slow. I had not seen a video or anything about this path.
Definitely a surprise and I wish I had taken my truck instead. Most of the trip was at a blistering speed of 3-5 mph! Totally enjoyed it!
Only in WV! There are a few back roads in Pocahontas County that about gave me a heart attack. Two way roads that are wide enough for only one car. Say your prayers.
