I think this is great PR for WV. The few times national television ever does a show on WV it is not a positive experience, ever. But this is 3 hour shows of one of the most popular series on television, and it showcases WV in a way that has never been done except on local programming. And I'm glad that the first thing they mention is the painting of Charleston by Edward Beyer, as it is totally West Virginian (though painted by a German immigrant). He drew and painted many scenes in West Virginia for his "Album of Virginia", unfortunately many of those were the resorts that are no longer in existence, except perhaps for Sweet Springs and a few other.
I'm only sorry that I have to wait a year to see the episodes. I collect silver made in West Virginia, pre-1865, and I have pieces from Wheeling, Martinsburg, Charles Town and Shepherdstown. I still don't have any Clarksburg silver and my main goal is to get a piece of WV holloware, e.g. a cup or bowl of some sort.
Just a reminder to anyone interested, the broadcast of the first episode of the Charleston Roadshow is Monday, May 11. You can watch in on their website if you miss the broadcast.
I don't know how people got tickets to go to the event. I applied, and was not granted a ticket. As a matter of fact, I don' know a single person that did get a ticket.
They must have done well, though. They are making three episodes out of their Charleston visit.
I'm sorry you didn't get into the Roadshow, a lot of people from around the area apply, probably quite a few from KY, OH, PA, VA and even TN or NC.
I was a little disappointed, I was hoping for more things of local interest and only a few people sounded like my family. The lady with the painting was funny, told it was worth $250,000, "Well, that's nice." Of course it is a state treasure, but I'm sure she's quite aware of that.
So we have two more episodes to go, I really want to see some Civil War things, guns or photos.
