Palm Beach Mall to be auctioned

Let's hope it dosen't sit and deteriorate for years. Hopefully, something good will come to the area.

It is prime real estate. I'm still holding out for an IKEA and a couple of restaurant outparcels that will complement the still-going-strong JC Penney.

A high end outlet mall would do well I think (Coach outlet, Banana Republic, etc).

They should turn it into a business park and bring in some decent jobs to the city. We do not need more retail space here, there is way too much sitting empty. I would even settle for a 50/50 mix of commercial and business park. Not another Downtown at the Gardens failure either.

Well, the problem is we have tons of empty business space too. Just across from the mall property are half about 8 or 9 office buildings, and they aren't all full up.

Yes your right, over abundance of space period but we need more higher paying jobs here not more min. wage jobs.

There are business parks to the west near the turnpike - and most of the buildings are empty.

Ikea would be great - or a mall that had stores that every day people can afford to shop in. The Gardens Mall is all high end stores - Saks, Bloomies, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Betsy Johnson, etc - except for Sears. Wellington Green Mall is 32 miles one way - 60 miles round trip is a long way to go shopping.

When I was younger, the PB mall was decent. A mixed group. But last time I was there, I could tell that the place had gone downhill - it's surrounded by not-so-nice of an area, so I'm not sure another large shopping center would do well, but it might.

The Palm Beach Mall was good up until about 2002ish. When I was in college we would shop at PBM because Gardens was too high end. It had all the normal stores. I don't know what killed it.... maybe Cityplace, revitalized Clematis, Wellington Green.... but once they started to let the low rent tenants in selling offbrand stuff, it went down hill as the clientele changed.

It would be great if this area becomes a NEW CITY PLACE...It would not just create new jobs and business to the area but would help the real estate of the area as well.

Bingo! It's surrounded by ghetto. Lets not beat around the bush here - it is what it is. I know people in my family that would no longer go there. The last time I was in there, with my wife, (a few yrs ago) it was uncomfortable. We were like THE only white people in there.
