That's a good idea. I'll be in pbc in december, and i have 3 days to find a rental and figure out exactly where i'll be living.

I'll have time to drive around at night and get a feel for things my first night there or so.

Frankly a drive through the area at night is going to give you a better picture than in the day time. It also will give you an idea to noise level from neighbors, often prospective residents are seeing a home or apartment in the day time, when people are working and children are in school.

If you really like a place, go back at night.

Just wondering...thanks for any help.
Kids are assigned to schools by address. You don't get to choose, where you live dictates which school you child attends.

This is bad news about the D rating in the schools.

Just moved to West Palm Beach on November 1st. Love it. I came from a nice suburb in New York and was deathly afraid of moving here based on some of what I've read on the internet and on this forum. I live around the Villages area and have to agree that it is safe. I go jogging and walk my dog in the late evening and do not feel threatened at all. The local shopping place called Village Commons is very good and has all the stores for day-to-day needs (supermarket, wine shop, drugstore, Starbucks, restaurants, flower shop, bank, etc.) If I had to give you a negative, I'd say when you come out of this enclave onto Military Trail and Community Drive, the neighborhood starts to take a turn, but coming from Westchester county in NY, I liken it to lower Central Avenue going toward Yonkers.

Oh really? Interesting:

Decrease in crime in Downtown West Palm Beach |West Palm Beach News, South Florida Breaking News, Forecast, Video from WPTV

South Florida crime: Crime up in Broward, down in Palm Beach County, FDLE says -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

Then we'll look at the trends for crime in West Palm Beach between 1999 and 2007:

City-data.com crime index for West Palm Beach:

1999:1227.0
2000:1081.1
2001: 939.9
2002: 941.9
2003: 900.4
2004: 884.6
2005: 772.7
2006: 736.4
2007: 701.7

Also, as of the mid-year crime report for 2009, crime is again down in WPB 15% over last year overall, though it's up in "Western" West Palm Beach, due to shoplifting at the new Wal-Mart:

If you weren't complaining about the crime rate five years ago, then, you shouldn't be complaining now since crime is DOWN overall!

Well we decided on North Palm Beach. We initially put in an offer for a condo in palm beach gardens, a community named eastpointe. It is very nice, but someone outbid us.
So we are in condo apt in north palm beach. Very nice area. About 1 minute from palm beach gardens and all the shopping there.
We are much closer to the ocean, and on the intercoastal.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input.
I'm sure i'll have more questions once we move in in a few weeks.
Thanks,
