Hi,
I am a medical student moving to WPB for my third year rotations. Some of my classmates have chosen the whitney to live in for the year. I have also had upperclassmen from my school live in the villages, like Portofino.

Just wondering in terms of safety and value, which is a better area.

Also, since a bunch of them are living in the Whitney and it is relatively new...has anyone heard or have any opinions about it?

So if you had to choose between the portofino complex and the whitney which would be your choice?

Thanks!
M

Whitney would be my choice. Downtown is closer to everything. You can walk everywhere. The Whitney is a new building, but it's pretty distressed for owners, so it's mostly renters. You'd definitely get much better amenities at Whitney than Portofino, which is a typical apartment complex setup. Whitney is a lot quieter, which may be important for a med student. (Some people call the Whitney "too quiet").

Safety-wise, it's about the same, though of course downtown IS a more urban environment. I lived in downtown and had/have friends that live downtown who never had any problems. Everyone I know that has lived downtown has enjoyed it.
