We are looking toward retirement in a few years but would like to buy now - somewhere between Fort Lauderdale and Port St. Lucie. three bedrooms - two bath single family house with community pool and some activities or clubhouse. However for us "active adult" includes motorcycling and sailing. I have several vintage BMW motorcycles and do my own restoration and maintenance - the 16 foot sailboat rests on a trailer when not in the water. Many HOAs seem to have problems with that! Looking at the crime data here on city-data I'm not happy with what I see in Delray, Boynton, Lake Worth, etc. Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Parkland (expensive), Boca, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter look more attractive. Parking the boat in a community parking area would work but I'm still concerned about the other regulations and covenents. Still, having amenities in the community is important. So - to my questions:

Are there communities that combine the freedom to have the toys I have yet include amenities that "active adults" would enjoy?
Which ones are located in "safer" areas?
How do I find these less restrictive HOAs?
Any motorcyclists or boaters willing to give me any insight into how you feel about where you live?
Any communities to stay away from?

Thanks,
Drew

I know of Jupiter Farms just west of Jupiter you can live on 1 to 2 acres of land and have a boat on a trailer no problem. My fathers friend lives out there with horses and trailer in the yard.

The city of Jupiter is strict.
North Palm Beach is nice, Singer Island is great too.
Fort Pierce is also a good choice..
