Pompano Beach visit and looking for recommendations (Miami, Tampa: house, purchase)

Hi all

We will be coming down in October for an anniversary vacation and also scouting the area for potential vacation/retirement home purchase in the not too distant future. We are looking for recommendations for recreational things to do when we are not house hunting. We both love eco tour type activities such as kayak and air boat tours, nature walks etc and will spend some time in the Everglades National Park. We have looked at a few different big tour operators but I was wondering what the hidden gems and "must do" things are that may not be on the radar of most folks. We love supporting the smaller local vendors and look forward to any and all recommendations. Thanks!

If you’re entering Everglades National Park at the Shark Valley entrance, you won’t be far from John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. It’s on Key Largo, the first key, and largest, in the key island chain.

Also, you need to get fresh fruit and treats from the Robert Is Here fruit stand on your way in or out of the Everglades. Everything is delicious!

At the Everglades only do the 2 main entrances - Miami side and Tampa side. There's more than enough at just there. Don't do any of the trails or you will be eaten alive by mosquitoes.
