My sister purchased a home in WPB in Fall of 2016 that needed work. The first contractor she hired was worthless and cost her a lot of money. Her new contractor had to undo the first guy's mistakes which also cost a bundle. Then there was a hurricane. Her contractor has been ready to go for months but there is such a backlog of permits waiting to be issued that she's in limbo. The demo has been done and now it's a waiting game. Anybody else having these problems? Any idea how much longer she's going to have to wait? The house is not habitable so she couldn't use it this winter. Here's hoping next winter isn't a bust also.

Way too many variables to answer unfortunately.
Her contractor would be the one to ask.

Waiting for permits since the hurricane? Zero chance that is legit.

Welcome to Florida, land of dreamers and schemers.

Thanks, guys. Will tell my sister this looks suspicious. Geez. She already got screwed by one contractor. This new one came highly recommended, too.

Spent the winter in Boca, worked for a General Contractor pulling permits from West Palm Beach to Ft.Lauderdale. Permit process is pretty straight forward if the contractor is legit and keeps on it. Permits can be tracked online as each Dept. reviews, approves, or wants changes. The cities don't have the time or responsibility to push contractors to follow up. You can get the Permit #, take it to the City Hall building dept, they will look it up and give you a print out of whats holding it up. Even though most Customers pay the contractor for the permit process unfortunately they can't sit back, they have to follow up on the permit status on their own in some cases. The staff I dealt with at Boca, Delray Beach, Boynton, etc are very helpful, but you have to go to their office, phone calls can be confusing, online is good if you know what you're looking for. Hope this helps...
