Hi everyone. I'm sick of winter. I want to be more active outdoors and scuba dive more regularly. I can live anywhere and still work as I'm a consultant. He's a software engineer who needs to have the option of going into an office at least a few days a week.

I visited Jupiter last year and loved it. I found it was Central to things I care about (animals rescue and rehab, scuba, Beach). I also like the theater and loved the maltz theater ( my hubby couldn't care less).

My husband is coming with me this year to check it out but is concerned the tech scene isn't strong. He's not really picky about extra curricular activities. I've been researching and noticed Boca Raton is 45 minutes from Miami, which has a stronger tech scene.

I work as an executive coach so I'm isolated except for my clients. He relies on me to arrange social outings (and is outgoing and engaging once in the setting). His work is not a natural way to meet friends.

My question is which place would be better for making friends with other 30 to 40 something's with or without kids (we'd want friends who don't look only for others who have kids as we don't plan on having them, and we enjoy kids so don't limit friends ... All of our friends up here in MA have them).

There's another way to ask this question ... where is the best place to meet 30 to 40's friends.

Thank you!

Jupiter is actually kind of remote as the northernmost point in the metro area. Boca isn't exactly a place I would choose either as a married couple without kids as it's VERY family-oriented. Your husband's commute from Boca to Miami or even to Ft Lauderdale for that matter is going to be atrocious, even if just a few days a week. You might check out Weston which places you between the Miami and Fort Lauderdale job markets plus plenty of cultural diversions as well as a fairly easy 30 minute drive to the beach (non rush-hour) thanks to I-595 despite being as far inland as it is. Bear in mind traditional surface streets running east-west in the area (headed to the beach for example) can take 30 minutes or more going a few miles at any time of day.

I think either place would work for you in regards to meeting friends. I would lean towards the Jupiter area for you because there is a great deal of nice spots to scuba from there. We are 35 & 51 and originally moved to the West Palm Beach area 10 years ago where we did not have issues meeting life long friends. I am a Software Engineer and my wife is a Financial Analyst. We met most of our friends through Co-ED Kickball, other Co-Ed Sports, Business Network events and work. We eventually had kids and moved to Port St. Lucie to get more space. We still commute to the West Palm and Jupiter area to meet our friends without and with kids regularly. They even make the trip up to visit us as well . So essentially I think either location will work socially just have to make sure you get out and do things outside of work. Also, once you meet a good group they can introduce you to others and you can take it from there!

Welcome to South Florida!

Jupiter is one of the nicer towns in all of Florida. Boca Raton is really big and spread out and has all types of people and income levels but overall is upper middle class. I like Palm Beach County better than Broward and Dade myself if I had to move to Florida.

Boca Raton is not 45 minutes from Miami, more like 1 1/2 hours, esp during rush hour.

Traffic is horrific. Only 2 ways up or down: 95 or Turnpike.

what your budget is and what type of housing you are looking for will also play a part in your decision.
Both areas are nice in there own ways but Jupiter has newer more affordable (in comparison to Boca) communities closer to the beach.
You should be able to find software engineering jobs in pbc.
We're in our mid 30's, and if we didn't have a kid I think Palm Beach Gardens would be where we'd live.
More restaurants and shopping than Jupiter and less traffic than Boca.
