Any input appreciated. Here are the specifics:

I come 5-7 times a year to FL (Boca area) to visit aging/ailing parents who recently moved into an assisted living facility. When there, I now stay at their old house, which is basically empty - and, in which, the phone and internet have been turned off. Because I usually stay for 7-10 days at a time (and because my employer allows me to do this on the condition that I continue to "cyber commute" while away), internet is essential.

Some details: I live in Europe, so also don't have a mobile phone plan that works in the US (well, at least not for less than $4.00/min) - and it's not a smart phone. I have a PC (not Mac) with Windows 8.1 - which, I've heard, is not compatible with T-Mobile's temporary internet plans. I've called my parents' old internet provider (AT&T), but the cost to turn the internet back on is $100, and the contract is about $60/month. So not worth it.

Checked a million times to see if I could piggyback on neighbors' open networks, but no dice. Yes, I can go Starbucks or the library, but the problem is I'm usually taking care of mom and dad during the day, so the only time I have is evenings - when I really just want to go home, and not be sitting in a coffee shop.

Any thoughts (besides, "you're out of luck")? Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the Virgin Mobile no- contract hot spot ? I think Boost and a couple of others have them, too.

MiFi2200 and OverdrivePro are Windows 8 compatible.

Sprint also has a program.

It's best to goggle no contract broadband. There are so many choices.

Thanks very much.

The trouble I keep coming up with is the compatibility with Windows 8.1 - most are compatible with 8.0, but NOT with 8.1. So sorry I just took the free "upgrade," because it seems to be a problem now.

But I'll google the phrase you note and see what I come up with. Thanks again.
