Hey everyone,

Im 22, single, and looking to move to Florida (west palm beach area) for work. I will be able to afford around the $1000 range for living. I want to live on the beach and enjoy my weekends. I skydive, kiteboard, wakeboard, scuba dive etc...

My lifestyle will consist of going to the gym, work, then beach, then sleep. But for the weekends I plan on enjoying it to the fullest especially the bar scenes.

Where is the best place to live for my situation. I work hard during the week but want to be a "beach bum" after work. I want to spend cash on the weekends and enjoy away.

I never drink and drive so walking distance locations would be great. Also, I may be moving down with my German shepherd so dog friendly areas would be a great plus.

Thanks

Downtown West Palm Beach: look at rentals in Grandview Heights and some of the neighborhoods near the college (Palm Beach Atlantic), just south of downtown. Not sure if any of the buildings IN downtown will be cheap enough or allow big dogs.

Palm Beach Gardens: look around downtown at the Gardens (more suburban).

Downtown Lake Worth: NE part of town, east of Dixie... kinda like a beach bum town lol

Delray Beach: Anything near Atlantic Avenue, east of 95, preferably east of about 3rd avenue.

Are you moving here without a job, if so you might want to reconsider your plan. Have a job, and one that pays well okay.

Also finding rentals for a Dog is difficult but not impossible, a lot of rent by owner types are not very pet friendly, also German Shepards are often listed under the banned breed types. Again not 100% but it won't be as easy to find a place to live.

$1K/month for a 1 bedroom apartment is slightly below average for a place in a safe nice area, it all depends on your standards as I know you can find this. If you want new, clean and modern I would say $1200 would be more average.

Just do your homework and make sure you have a job lined up prior to moving here, unemployment is still quite high here.

Look into the Juno Beach area. It has great beaches. My son owns a home in Juno Beach and on Saturdays if he's not out on his boat, he's at the beach. He goes to a gym I believe that's located on Donald Ross Road - tons of stuff to do in that area. Nice young demographic too.

Juno Beach is full of retirees and seasonal snow birds. The beach get's filled with young people, but that's about it.

I disagree - tons of young people there and buying houses there too. My son is one of them and several of his friends - all late 20's and early 30's.

"Tons" really? Juno Beach is made up of Condos primarily, the houses that are there, and there isn't a lot of them, are quite expensive. There is some homes in the $300K+ range to the Southwest still quite expensive for the average person/income levels of South Florida.

Average age in Juno Beach is 60.

I do not know of too many young people in their late 20's and early 30's that can afford a house in Juno Beach, but I am sure they are out there....just not average.

441 South Lyra Circle, Juno Beach FL - Trulia

It's not known for night life or a place for young professionals to hang out.

Don't know if you're ever going to come back, but anyone else in your situation should look into more non-traditional rentals available in and around the downtown areas, such as these:

Flamingo Park/ Grandview Heights

Gorgeous 1/1.5 house GrandView Heights

No need to rent in some run of the mill apartment complex.

Gosh, I hope your 'dream' comes true. But, I am not quite sure what you mean by 'I will be able to afford around the $1000 range for living.' IF I wanted to do all these things you post and not be homeless then I'd budget $2-$2.5K/per month and drink only club soda in the bars.

I work hard during the week ' ..' Where is the best place to live for my situation.'

Well, where is your job going to be?

Seriously, perhaps you ought to think about sharing a flat with a roommate which could cut down on your basic expenses. Check the Palm Beach Post / Classified section to get an idea what jobs and rentals are available. You can easily access it on line. Makes sense?

THX,
there are some hidden communities a couple of blocks west of US 1 in Juno I never knew existed until recently when I drove around with a friend looking for 'inexpensive' apartment for her daughter with two young children. Basically duplexes and/or old single family homes ; predominantly very young people live there. While some streets are well kept others are 'better to stay away from'. No flats in these places are hardly ever advertised, if at all. Well, enough said.
