You DO know where the Villages area is, right?

Because someone should tell the slew of women and young people living there, attending Northwood University, etc. that it is not a safe area for them to be in.

Looking at the crime grids for the entire area for the past two months, home to thousands of people, the only violent crimes appear to be domestic disturbance related assaults. There was also a disturbing incident of a burglary of an occupied dwelling, but of course we don't know the specifics.

Most common crimes in the area appear to be thefts reported from retail establishments in the neighborhood, and "burglary of a conveyance" - AKA, people taking stuff from unlocked cars.

You and I have very different opinions as far as safe areas.
There's nothing wrong with that.
But I'd never live in the places you've suggested on this, or other threads.
Nor would I suggest them to others.

Yes, and I do not agree with your opinion and those of many others because I find it shaped by slight paranoia, media hype and over-exposure to crime news. (And possible, unconfirmed aversion to minorities).

Additionally, ANYONE who laments crime rates in Palm Beach County (and South Florida) today, while thinking the 90s were some magic time of peace and harmony are perfect examples of media conditioning. Crime was EXPONENTIALLY higher during that time throughout the country, but as people get older, less tolerant and more exposed to media that can show them every little crime, they get skittish and think things are going to hell in a handbasket.

This, despite the fact that the crime rate has universally fallen in Florida and the United States this past ten years. In West Palm alone it has halved.

In the end, there really should only be slight differences of opinion between what is a "safe" area vs what is a "not safe" area.

Some people on this board get nervous and talk about the "crime" in Boca Raton, despite Boca having a crime rate significantly below average.

To those people, there "is something wrong" with their opinion, period.

I never recommend living somewhere I personally would not live, and I am not some urban pioneer.

The Villages is NOT a bad place to live. I know college professors, designers, store managers and accountants that call the area home. There are places in West Palm that I would NOT live because of crime fears, and the Villages is not on that list.

I would caution any reader to actually do the independent research, and not rely on anectdotes. Years ago my mother's home was broken into back when her city made SAFEST CITY IN AMERICA for the size. Talk to her, and it was hell on earth. But the FACT would remain that the average person had the lowest chance of being a victim of crime in that city than any other of comparable size.

you guys got trolled. TS, never responded to any of your posts? Talking to yourselves?

Fact is unless someone is supported financially, WPB is a terrible place to move to without a job/connections/support system. Which she obviously doesnt have. Restaurants hostess, they look for the hottest women they can find. Some are part time models in Miami.

Sometimes the conversation goes on, as more people than just the OP read these forums!

Nonetheless, ANYWHERE is a bad place to move without a job/connections/support system. Unless you're a single guy heading off to the Dakotas to find work in the oil fields.

(And... maybe ugly hostesses play well in Dubuque or Fargo, but most places I've been have only attractive people working the front door)!

Why not look into enrolling in a school where you are from and then doing an externship at a school in SoFla? That way you are sort of consolidating your expenses. Also seems it would be easier to make connections -> get a job upon graduation. Just a thought.
