I am moving with my husband to West Palm Beach from KY. We are looking for a kid/pet friendly, safe area with single family homes near the airport (where my husband will be working). We are open to driving up to 45min to get into a good area. Also, if anyone could comment on the housing market, still a buyers market? A lot of Foreclosures and/or short sales? Any advice on purchasing a home in this area?
Thanks for any info!

We've lived in Parkland since 1987 after living in beautiful NH, and couldn't recommend a better city, better schools, etc. We raised two boys from kindergarten to college and feel they got a private school education for a public school price. We have beautiful gated and non-gated communities which are all very safe and a great place to raise a family. It takes us about 40 minutes to get to the WP airport. Parkland schools were rated #1 by Forbes magazine for most bang for the real estate buck! In the best markets Parkland, Weston, etc., it is a seller's market with nice homes selling in days, foreclosures and short sales are 90 percent gone.

Ugh, don't live in Parkland. Thats not convenient at all. There are many places similar between there and Palm Beach International. IF you look in the suburbs like Wellington and Royal Palm Beach, those areas are similar to Parkland and quite close to PBIA. There are also lots of nice single family homes along Okeechobee Blvd west of Florida's Turnpike IN the West Palm Beach area. This would give you you the benefits of living in the city, but without the dense congestion and crime, Riverwalk or Andros Isle for example. I think its would still be a decent time to buy here, and that should work in your favor. If you bought in West Palm or its outer suburbs, the opening of the Palm Beach Fashion Outlets in a year or so will really spike interest in this area and would be convenient for you. Look up the HGTV House Hunters episode "WEst Palm Wishes." That couple was doing something very similar to what you are. I've been here 24 years...my whole life lol

I was going to say the same thing... Not sure why you would drive 45 minutes to another county when you have plenty of nice options here.
Most of Palm Beach County is less than a 45 min drive of the airport so it really will depend on your lifestyle and what price range you would like to be in.
As mentioned Wellington would put you on pretty much a straight shot, 15-20 minute drive to the airport. This is considered one of the most affordable family friendly areas in PBC.

While many people think it's still a buyers market because the prices are low, well priced homes are selling very quickly and often resulting in bidding wars. There are still plenty of distressed properties, but they also sell very quickly.
If you can't come down for at least a week or two to explore the areas you may want to rent for a 7-12 month period to figure out where you want to be. Obviously do as much research as you can at home, but finding a knowledgeable realtor can be very helpful in this market.

Thanks for any info!

Foreign investors are buying up below market value properties in West Palm Beach Country. I was in bidding war for two homes in RIVERIA BEACH! These clowns dont even live in the USA. They just see its
near the ocean and 25% of Dubai or LA.

As far as homes go, look at the Wellington area.

Depending on your price range, the top areas would be; Palm Beach, Jupiter Island, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Wellington and Juno Beach. Since you do not mind driving far you might also check out Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, two very nice areas south a bit.
