1) Is downtown West Palm Beach a safe and nice area to live in for a young, single white collar male?

2) How far is WPB from the Boynton Beach Mall and the Gardens mall?

3) Are there any good italian restaurants in the downtown W. Palm area?

4) Anyone know anything about "The Strand" On Evernia Street?

Yes. But it IS a true urban center, so use as much caution to avoid crime as you would in any real city. For what it's worth, crime in downtown WPB has dropped exponentially the past few years, year over year. A curfew for under 18s seems to have helped!

About 15 minutes from both. And about 20-30 mins from the Wellington Mall.

There is technically a mall IN downtown WPB though (Cityplace), that has some good mall staples such as Banana Republic, Gap, Lucky, Macys. Just over the bridge on Palm Beach there's Saks and Neiman Marcus and all the super high end shopping you could ever want.

Bellagio in Cityplace, Cucina on Palm Beach Island... there's a new one opening on Clematis.... oh, and Forte is primarily Italian. City Pizza in Cityplace is good for Italian standards like ziti, lasagna, etc.

About three guys who work in my firm live there (late 20s, early 30s). Great location for its proximity to the water and Clematis street. I toured there when I first came to West Palm and like it, but settled for a unit closer to Cityplace.

Avoid the Boynton Beach Mall, trust me you won't miss anything.

The best malls is PBC are the Gardens in PBG and the Town Center at Boca. The Wellington Mall is not bad as well but it's often overcrowded and full of kids and is less upscale/high end.

The best Italian restaurant in downtown WPB that I have tried is Il Bellagio at City Place. There were others on Clematis around 10 years ago, but they closed.

IL Bellagio at City Place

There are also a few on Palm Beach, but I know Amici closed recently. Actually there are far more good Italian places outside the city limits, Mamma Mia's Trattoria in West Lake Worth, Campagnolo in Wellington and Nick's Tomato Pie in Jupiter to name a few.
