Our temps are cool enough we do see a "bit of a Fall" here in north Texas, but it's my understanding that generally nighttime temps have to fall at least to the 40's F in order to trigger the leaves to change color. For us, that's usually November and often late in November before we see our "peak" Fall color.

That said, we don't see a great deal of really spectacular color here. Some bits and pieces here and there, but to really drool over Fall foliage, which I am prone to do, I have to look at photos!!

Do you get Fall color in your area? If so, when would you say the peak time for it in your area?

Late October for NYC area. It's probably even later in the city proper but then there aren't that many trees in the city.

Lots of golden leaves on the road side here in Buxton. Fall is way under way.

Peak time here is in early November. Color should begin changing anytime, though.

Our leaves start to colour up quickly when we get our first low under 40 F.
Peak is usually either just before or immiediately after our first light frost.

I have no idea what meteorologists consider "peak" here, but I would probably consider it early-October.

I find it most visually appealling when there is less than 10% leaf drop;
(I think meteorologists disagree with me, describing "peak" later than I do)
this makes the kaleidescope effect, as the oaks are still a solid dark green
(which makes a nice backdrop against the other colours )

By late October there usually isn't much to see;
50+% leaf drop, some yellows, oranges and random greens.

Being in the Tri-State area like you (coast of Connecticut)... I too notice how much later the trees in the city change. I've seen leafs wait till late November sometimes. I think this year the turn will be even later anyway due to Atlantic around NJ/LI/ is still pretty warm. I was at beach today, water feels pretty warm.

Late October. But then again, the "fall" weather doesn't really go away here in Southern California, it just gets a bit colder.
