It is...its appeared for awhile 1/22-1/28 would be warm...it did look for awhile that we would quickly flip back into a fairly cold pattern thereafter in the central and eastern US but that looks more in doubt now
Yes, I saw that too. But I would not discount cold coming back in Feb. The last month of meteorological winter always has a few cold shots left.
So far...at least here on the East Coast, it really has been an easy winter. We really can't complain. Places like NYC, Washington DC, Richmond...etc are all running 3 to 5 F above normal for the month of January. Snow has been only a few inches (most locations 4 to 8 inches for the season so far). So even if winter comes back in Feb it really has been pretty mild since late November.
Major snowstorm here in Victoria today. No photos from me--I'm at work not having the luxury of being able to "work" from home like some people. This is from Twitter/X.

Here too, we're still tracking about 4F over the 20 year average and 6F over the 80 year average for January.
When was the last time Toronto had a snowstorm like this? Seems like years. Even during those big bomb cyclones last week Toronto only got ~5 cm.
So frustrating how the places that want/like snow (Toronto, NYC) always miss out and the places that hate the stuff (West Coast) keep getting smashed over and over again.
Toronto had a 30 last March. Month totaled over 45. There is a light dusting in downtown but more towards Steeles Avenue, maybe enough to toboggan.
Was that March 3/4 of 2023? Pearson got 24.6 cm in those two days so, yeah, similar. Seemed like longer ago to me.
