Climate Battle: USA vs Roman Empire (warm, days, world, most)

Inspired by my historical Empire thread, and an attempt to end the current epidemic of London trolling threads.
It's quite obvious that no modern day state can defeat the USA in a climate battle on these boards, but how about a state that no longer exists? The Roman Empire. Both have a large diversity of climates, and I think that with all things considered, this should be close.
Have you taken into account the fact that climate may have changed since then ? We'd need accurate weather data for most famous battles of those days.
My angle is that people should compare the climates as they are in 2017. Admittedly I should have been much clearer about that.
If you are to compare climates as they were in the ancient world, supposedly it was warmer. The Romans are said to have grown successful wine vineyards as far north as Lincoln.
