although it could be nice to have it run along the Californian coast as then you would have so much climatic diversity nearby.
Diversity in a small place? Spain has 13 different Köppen climates just in mainland Spain, without counting the Canaries. (ET, Dfb, Dfc, Dsb, Dsc, Cfa, Cfb, Csa, Csb, Bsk, BSh, BWk, BWh)
Spain is perfect where it is, the nature knew how to gift the Iberian Peninsula. Although I would move it a bit more to the south, to have even a more brilliant climate!
But without doubt, the thing is not on Spain. The thing is on The Netherlands. I would move again without doubts to Rotterdam if it was here:

Well, this is the weather forum, so we'll only base our answers on climates pretty much. For that, we'll have to know your climatic preferences.
That area encompasses a great variety of climates, from snowy Telluride https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tellur...lorado#Climate and many alpine mountain climates in the northern and central areas to subtropical and hot desert climates in the south.
Average low in January -16*C
Average high in August +30*C
It is very seasonal. Cold winters and Hot summers ( July-August). Perception in winter months are also good enough. It may not be too snowy but it is snowy enough.
The highest snow thickness recorded is 225 cm ( 88.6 inches), recorded on 21th February 1985
