Second time it's happened to me this summer. I got back from golf a few weeks ago, and there was still some hail on the front seat and the rain also caused a short in the horn, which started blaring nonstop, early in the morning.
Usually the driest months here, but already over 250mm/10 inches for the month.
Lol, that's kind of funny. But I would imagine that if you had neighbors around they weren't too happy lol.

No neighbours within hearing range, fortunately, but the dog went wolf, and started howling. It was an incredibly piercing sound. I ended up putting ear muffs on, until I could find the ( unlabeled) fuse - ended up just disconnecting the battery

In town I usually lock the car, but here, we don't even lock the house.

I wouldn't be able to sleep lol. The houses in my old neighborhood almost always had metal bars across all first floor windows and everyone had two or more locks on their front door. It took me a while to get comfortable with having a sliding glass back door and just one lock on the front door here.

I don't lock my house, occasionally I forget to lock my car; but I usually do out of habit, but some here don't. Once I saw someone left the inside light on their car, opened the door and turned it off for them.
But why leave the window open? That just screams "it's unlocked" and the weather, dust, etc. could get in. Though dust gets in driving with the window open.
I used to be careful not to leave anything inside my car and move it all to the trunk when parking my car in New York City. More recently, I haven't been that careful.
The lock on the door to my stairway is broken, so if you don't pull the door properly after you it will not be locked and anyone can just step in. Nobody knows that, though. Once there has been some junkies congregating outside and a couple of times some drunkards messing around. Nobody has realised the fact that if you pull the the door it will open, if not pulled properly like a door to your flat.
Please don't tell this to anyone. I don't want any junkies sleeping in the stairway.
