If you had to spend November through April in either L.A. or Miami without central heating without knowing about how the weather would be that winter ahead of time, which would you choose?
You can pick the warmest microclimate in either city or the most affluent or desired neighborhood of your choice (e.g. Star Island in Miami or Hollywood Hills in L.A.)

I'd pick Miami because of the MUCH warmer winter overnight average lows. I'd even sleep with the window open most nights. If there's a strong cold snap, I can bundle up inside the house for a day or two. Our Southern California winter nights in the mid 40s on clear nights or in the low 50s on cloudy nights (after a rainy day in the low 60s) do make me turn on that furnace unless we are having a warm spell (like we the one that lasted most of winter during the 2013-2014 winter).

Miami for sure... when you get the odd day in the 50s.. just bundle up indoors and have an extra blanket handy.. in a few days time when the temp goes back into the 70s... you can go back to normal
People are so obsessed with Miami and cold snaps. It is ridiculous. If one didn't have an idea of Miami's winter and was to read this forum, they would think Miami was a tundra or something. I have never heard of a city has warm/hot as Miami with the words "cold" or "freezing" constantly associated with it.
Seriously people are obsessed with these snaps that happen about 5 out of 365 days days on average.

I mean yes it can be "cold" but high of 58 and a low of 38 (usually about our average coldest day) is nothing compared to an AVERAGE day up north.
