The power of a southwest flow and very warm mid level temps. Records broken, great lakes no effect

From NWS Buffalo

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
147 PM EDT SAT MAY 9 2015

TEMPERATURES...
THE AIRMASS HAS CHANGED LITTLE DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS...SO
850MB TEMPERATURES THAT AVERAGED CLOSE TO 16C FRIDAY WILL REMAIN
IN THE MID TEENS FOR TODAY. AT 925 MB...SHORT RANGE ENSEMBLES
SUGGEST TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 20S CELSIUS. THESE VALUES ARE
SOME 2 TO 3 STANDARD ABOVE NORMAL. GIVEN AT LEAST PARTIAL SUNSHINE
AND FULL MIXING...THIS SHOULD SUPPORT HIGH TEMPS IN THE UPPER 80S TO
NEAR 90 ONCE AGAIN
INLAND FROM THE LAKES. THE BACKGROUND SYNOPTIC
SCALE FLOW IS WEAK ENOUGH AGAIN TODAY TO ALLOW LAKE BREEZES TO
DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON WITH STRONG DIFFERENTIAL HEATING...KEEPING
ALL THE LAKESHORES COOLER.

THIS WILL LIKELY TRANSLATE INTO ANOTHER ROUND OF RECORD
TEMPERATURES FOR WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK. RECORDS FOR
TODAY INCLUDE...BUFFALO (82/2014)...ROCHESTER (89/1979) AND
WATERTOWN (84/2014). SURFACE WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE MORE
SSW THAN SOUTHWESTERLY...SO LAKE BREEZES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO
TEMPER THE MERCURY AT BUFFALO AND WATERTOWN AIRPORTS
.

THE WARM AIRMASS WILL ALSO MEAN THAT WE WILL HAVE A SUMMERY NIGHT
TONIGHT
WITH TEMPERATURES ONLY DROPPING TO THE LOWER TO MID 60S.
LIKE THEIR DAYTIME COUNTERPARTS...THESE VALUES WILL BE NEARLY 20
DEGREES F ABOVE NORMAL

Lying on the grass, watching the sun set over the blooming treetops. It's amazing how quickly everything bloomed, it feels like Spring only took one week to arrive!

I <3 Spring, ja cie kocham

I've got 2-3 inches already. Snowing sideways now so most surfaces are getting covered in snow.

I'll take some pics tomorrow when it is not dark.

It seems like the Black Hills of SD always get their biggest snows in early fall and late spring. Weird lol

Holy crap.

That 92F has gotta be a considerably rare occurrence for Rochester in mid-May. Definitely well outside of the 66F (19C) normal high.

Record high for May is 94F at ROC.

National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Rochester, Greater Rochester International Airport
