And then right back in the freezer again next week until the end of March. Right now our temp anomaly for March is 5F. As you move beyond the three winter months our std deviation drops, yet not this year.
This is the worst winter here in many years. Even in the frigid 1980's, usually it warmed up after the winter was over.
In 1977, 1982, 1983, 1985, and 1994 (all very cold winters), the avg high in March was over 50F. Right now our avg high/low is 45/27F. 1977 (coldest January on record) the avg high was 60F in March. In 1985 (very cold winter) the avg high was 55F in March. I am sick and tired of this crap.
This march is insane. A bunch of days in the 50's and 60's with sunshine and a handful of 27 F and overcast days. We reached a high of 68 F sometime ago. Now that sudden surge of warmth after cold days made my underarms break out a sweat .
Temperatures dropped from 68 F to 21 F in 10 hours or so that day.

Northern and Northeastern Europe might be quite warm for the remainder of the spring. Suits me fine. If that up to 2C anomaly holds, the mean temp in April can be around 3.3C warmer than last year. March is definitely gonna be around 7-8C warmer than last year!
Maybe it's just me, but despite this March running below normal, it still looks and feels like early spring. The sun is stronger, the days are longer, plants are budding and blooming, etc.
Lately the mild conditions have been outweighing the cold, and even when it's cold, it doesn't feel nearly as bad as January/February.
Saw a few of those last month but inside the house. They must of survived inside. I am hoping we don't see as many bugs this year. If we do, then I'm putting that myth to rest that a cold winter gets rid of them.
They stay in houses during the winter to escape the cold but they are inactive, so when spring comes if they've already invaded your house, you'll probably see more as they come out. I have heard stinkbug mortality rates are up this winter, which is good of course, but the bigger issue is they'll just rebound from this because obviously they won't all be killed and they're an invasive species and have no natural predators. The issue is just getting worse every year with these pests, and this winter can only slow them down so much. A permanent solution is badly needed, like the introduction of a predator or large-scale trapping with pheromones, or both.
Quick look at where southern New England stations stand so far. Most likely end up below normal. As of right now we're well below near record cold March.

I think it'll be impossible not to be below normal at this point. We have the warmest part of march remaining so our average will be boosted. My guess is we won't break the record but come close, maybe 3rd.

I wouldn't even say 3rd right now. Seen so many times a couple days ruin the anomaly. Probably Top 10 is a safe bet. We'll see.
Heavy snow in parts of New England right now with some thunder as well.
Caribou, Maine needs 11-13" to enter 10th snowiest March and 10th snowiest winter since 1939. Currently have 121.7" for the season. And here's NWS Snow Total Forecast for the area tonight
Oh yea. Walking home I felt a bit of sleet mixed with the rain.
