Wow girls, that is nice and toasty. Tulsa and Galveston are both on my weather.com list so I noticed it was unusally warm for this time of night.

It doesn't snow in Melbourne. The nearby hills (+2000ft) will get a dusting occasionally. The closest Melbourne has come to seeing snow is in August 2005, when beaches on Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road recieved snowfall, and some towns, inlcuding Ballarat (120km west of Melb) and Korumburra (100km southeast, Gippsland region) got a rather spectacular fall. On that same day, my area got graupel/ice pellets from a thunderstorm, at about 5pm it was 40ºF!
Even though I hate winter, this time of year can bring interesting weather. To be honest, I secretly hope to see snow in Melbourne sometime ()! Unlikely, but there have been close calls.
On the other hand, strong highs often form at this time of year, and the last few years have seen some record cold nights. Wangaratta in northern Vic (it is a town of 25,000, and a NON-alpine station) saw -7.5ºC in June 2006. That month averaged -2ºC for the minimum in Wangaratta!! That was an easy record!
Often in winter - you'll see ice warnings posted on the main freeways to Sydney, Adelaide and Bendigo as they all cross hilly terrain (up to 2000ft above sea level).
Most of the corn planting is wrapping up , but even the early planted corn hasn't emerged as soil temps are too cold.
Since Memorial Day is only 3 days away, this will be one of the first Memorial Days I can remember that the lilacs weren't in bloom yet. (most years they are over and done blooming by Memorial Day.
The wild plums are in bloom in the pasture --------( they always bloom early) and there is a lovely perfume scent when you get near them.
56 and very dark and cloudy here. We have not had rain here yet but most of the rest of the valley got some showers and even some hail in places. Our high is forecasted to be 72. Our normal high is about 100.
It's good to see I'm not the only one who isn't extremely happy about their weather. It's 59 degrees here and we may hit 64 today. That's only about 9 degrees below average, nothing compared to what some areas are going through. It looks like Phx. will be about 25 degrees below average. It's almost got to feel chilly down there after having over 100 degrees.
My winds are roaring though. 22 gusting to 31 and it's supposed to get windier. Originally, we were supposed to have strong storms today, but it's starting to look like they've been pushed off until Sat.
Jammie, it's a rare thing to see anyone happy with their weather lately, so we're all in this together (and you know I'm not happy about my weather )
