San Jose, CA- very temperate climate- summers are bone dry with warm days and cool nights and nights even cool off decently (around 70 F) during the most brutal heat waves of 105 F days (bone dry with dewpoints in the 40s). Winters get a decent amount of rain with temperatures mostly in the 50s to low 60s by day and around 45 at night when it rains and around 35-40 on clear nights. Very uneventful weather. Thunderstorms are a once a year event and severe weather is next to impossible. Low standard deviations. 3-5 freezing nights a year with snow accumulation at sea level being a once in a lifetime expeince.

Orlando, FL- hot, humid summers with warm nights guaranteed from May through October. Cool nights are UNHEARD OF from June through early September when humidity is at its highest with daily afternoon thunderstorms during this time as well. Tornadoes and severe weather is a definite possibility in the spring. Hurricanes are a threat in the summer and early fall. Winters are warmer than San Jose on the average but have a much larger standard deviation also resulting in 3-5 freezing nights a year and snow accumulation as a once in a lifetime experience. Orlando gets colder daytime temperatures during cold snaps than San Jose even though the average high in Orlando in winter is in the low 70s and 80s are not at all uncommon.

San Jose very rarely sees 70+ from December through February). Unlike chilly summer nearby San Francisco, San Jose reliably reaches 70+ most days from May thru October and 80 + most days in July and August.

The question is NOT, "Which climate do you like better?" but which climate comes closer to a four seasons climate?

All time record lows for winter are similar for both places due to Orlando's higher standard deviation in temperatures. All time record lows for Orlando's summer are higher than San Jose's average summer lows. Summer record highs are lower than San Jose, but the heat index in summer is like way, way higher due to humidity that's non existent in San Jose.

I would say that San Jose has a closer to a 4 season climate due to higher latitude which causes greater changes in daylength and deciduous trees can also respond to that more easily. Also, San Jose has cooler weather in the winter despite the same amount of frosts and record lows and deciduous trees need a chilling period in the winter which San Jose has much more of than Orlando. To me, San Jose is just like a warmer version of Vancouver and I consider here to have a weak 4 season climate.

Orlando has a lot of zone 10 microclimates...there are a few coconut palms there. San Jose wins by a landslide.

Not surprised that San Jose is winning. What about San Diego vs Orlando? I think that would be a lot closer.
