This election day I’ve decided to know more, and rely on others less.
So when I watch the returns next Tuesday evening with friends, I’ll have my pen, paper and list of how many Electoral College votes each state has. My fierce skill at simple addition, a bag of Cheetos and a can of Pepsi will round out my prep.

WA has 11 electoral votes.
Eight states (including D.C.) have the lowest number, 3. California has the highest, 55.

If you too want to play along at home. here’s the alpha list of states and their respective electoral votes from The Federal Register:
Project Vote Smart - U.S. Electoral College 2008 - List Of States And Votes

This is a cuter version, with maps so you can track the action across the time zones, plus explanations, historical info, etc. A simple list is near the bottom of the long page:

Don't forget to take your lovely parting gifts.

Kinda scary to think that it's possible to come up with a tie scenario.

There won't be a tie, but what if there is one?

Default In the event of an Electoral College tie

The House would pick the president and the Senate the vice president. But as currently configured, the Senate could also conceivably tie. I'm pretty sure that the rules then say that Obama's Chicago Cubs and McCain's Arizona Diamondbacks would have a one-game playoff to decide.

Now that's a scary prospect. When did the Cubs last win when it really counted? Maybe when Woodrow Wilson was President?

Smile Theodore Roosevelt was President during the Cubs' last World Series victory

The Cubs last won the World Series in 1908, when Theodore Roosevelt was President.

Obama's former Illinois State House district was on the South Side of Chicago, which is where the White Sox play, so that may actually be the team that he favors.
