School Districts with good special education programs (Seattle, Tacoma: taxes, commute to)

Hi, my husband may be taking a job in the Auburn area and I am interested in school districts anywhere in the area around Tacoma or Seattle (less than 45 minute commute to Auburn) that have good special education programming. My son is in 2nd grade and is fully mainstreamed but has a supportive school with an assistant and good accommodations.

I am looking for a school district that believes in mainstreaming and providing the supports necessary for the child to succeed.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should look into an area that has high school taxes, they will spend more on the schools. Seattle/Issaquah/Bellevue etc.

One of the best public schools with mainstreaming special education is the Bellevue School District. My son has been enrolled in the "special education" program for over three years and I can confidently say "Bellevue is excellent". There are other students who have more urgent needs and require much more attention than my son (diagnosed with ADHD) and they are mainstreamed as well. My son, who is in 2nd grade this September, has received special services for fine motor skills, speech and socialization with very caring specialists. I would be more than happy to share more specifics if you want to send me a message in my "direct messages".

For future reference there is an excellent private school that starts from middle school and goes through high school called New Horizon located in Renton. I plan on sending my son there when he is finished with 5th grade. You can still receive services in middle school but for personal reasons I feel he would do better in a small school. Bellevue MS and HS tend to very extremely large.
