Or is it very remote and just mostly for the Twilight stuff? What is there to do as a single-and-maybe-sometimes-dating 30 something, if I do date by then or am single, no kids.. what is there to do for a week or even longer? I have a friend in the Shelton, WA area and may visit up sometime and Forks was a possible stop idea for me.

I like weird small towns so if you have a spooky one just to walk around or drive around and absorb the remote, unique-quirky-ness (think Boonville, Point Arena, Bolinas, in Northern California) then give me your weirdest!

I may have been thinking of Aberdeen... but that may be cool!

Most small towns on the peninsula started out as timber towns... and that is where a majority of the people who live there still work and play... They're good places if you want to cut wood, hunt, fish, hike, or camp.

Most of those little towns have a tavern and a church and a little store. If you're going to meet people, it's likely going to be at one of those places. I'd try all three.

Darrington is kind of weird and way up into the foothills. You might like it.

Forks is super remote and not much is there besides the Twilight tourist stop, and then normal stuff for the local residents.

A few towns that are much quirkier than Forks:
- Port Townsend
- Coupeville
- Poulsbo
- Roslyn (very small)

As far as Aberdeen, it is quirky, but in an "all the jobs left, and a lot of the people got hooked on opioids then fentanyl" kinda way. If you want that vibe but without the heavy dose of depression and angst, I'd just go hang out in Bremerton.

Anacortes has become much more of a tourist town, and we love to go there. You can walk downtown and check out all kinds of shops, they have an amazing sandwich shop and a great old-fashioned burger drive-in that we go to.

The other place you should visit is Port Townsend. You mentioned "spooky" and if you want an adventure stay at the Palace hotel as we did.

For us Forks is a place to drive through while heading from the Olympic National Park to the Hoh Rainforest, not worth stopping unless you need gas or a bottle of water.

I agree with Hemlock, that there's no "there" there, in Forks, and that Port Townsend is much more interesting and scenic. Plus it seems to have one or more bona fide haunted hotels, if you're into that. Check out the food co-op for lunch; they have great home-made soups and other fare. Look up Fort Worden Historic State Park and see if they have any interesting events happening when you're planning your trip. https://fortworden.org/

I don't understand how dating fits into your inquiry about a 1-week (or longer) visit to these places. Are you considering moving to the area? Anacortes has the larger population (18,000) compared to Pt T (10,000 and growing). But Pt T has more interesting things going on. They have weekend festivals of all sorts (jazz, film, wooden boats, etc. etc.) starting in spring and running through early October.

The median age in Anacortes is 48. In Port Townsend it's nearly 60. It's popular with retirees, yet I know of young people in their 20's and 30's who have managed to move there and find housing (another challenge) and jobs in the area. But these small towns around Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula tend to be bring-your-own-job type of places.

The joke in Anacortes is that it's for the newlywed and nearly dead. Of course that's just a joke...but it isn't a great place for young single people to meet other young singles.
