I currently work for two different companies here in iowa. They both deal with disabilities, one is for children, the other is with adults. I absolutly love the work. And plan on continueing it even when i get my history ed degree. I've tried researching it and can't find any organizations in the area that deal with either children or adults with disabilities. Does anybody know any organizations that deal with this type of work?

I'd suggest calling the local hospitals. Are you moving to Washington? Depending on what area you're in, Seattle has lots of opportunities to volunteer. Seattle Children's hospital is a good place to start. Also, if you're working for companies in IA, talk to your supervisors, they may know of similar companies or have old colleagues who may be of some help to you.

Please be more specific... what sort of "work" do you do with children/adults with disabilities? Are you a physical therapist? Speech?

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services may be a good place to start.

You might consider becoming a child-specific para-educator. Good ones aren't easy to come by. Even very small school districts have them. Most include union representation and benefits.
