I can't wait to see this get abused...oops, I mean enacted. It won't do anything to deter drunk driving, it will however raise revenue for he state without it being called a tax.
I don't drink and drive, yet I have a huge problem with this.

She has also raised taxes, license fees (didn't we vote to keep those in check?) and still has time in office to do more.

Gregoire is a joke.
This is a little off the subject, I'm no Gregoire fan but I have to reply...

Why the hell would anyone have a problem getting a drunk that could kill someone off the road? If they aren't drunk, they won't have to worry about generating revenue. If they are, too freakin' bad!!!! Sure...this may not deter anyone from drinking and driving, but they could certainly stop that person from running the next light after where a checkpoint "would have been" and killing someone (the longer on the road, the greater the chances...). I don't get it. Since you brought this up, this may actually be a good post to start.

Default fair voting

Wow, many folks are accusing Gregoire of stealing the election. Your vigilance to ensuring fair elections is admirable. I hope that you do everything that you can to ensure that the voting machines in the 2008 presidential election are working in your district, or that your state uses paper ballots because as the Ohio election showed us and as their sec'y of state just released -- paper ballots may be the only safe way to vote, and also, last of all, I hope you carry the same sense vigilance that you do about Washington for your fellow Americans in other states --like Ohio and Florida.

Don't get me wrong, I'm for every and any punishment a drunk driver gets. If they kill themselves driving drunk they get no sympathy from me.

I have the problem with this because it will not just be used for getting drunks off the road. What if a cop discovers you don't have your license? I guarantee you'll get written up. Forgot to put on your seat belt? You'll get a ticket for that. Coming home from the store with an unopened six pack in your back seat, you'll get a ticket.

If the warrant specifically states they can only check your sobriety and nothing else, great. Perhaps they'll work. I don't see that happening though. They will be general warrants (can they legally have those) and cops will use them as an opportunity to issue any ticket they see fit.

There is too much of a temptation for the cops to abuse these checkpoints. There is also an invasion of privacy angle to the whole thing. Two things the Supreme Court addressed when ruling them illegal to begin with.
