I agree with Hemlock140, aside from some hikes around Mt.Rainier or Mt.Baker (which I've only seen pictures of) Hurricane Ridge, 19 miles south of Port Angeles, is the prettiest site I have seen in Washington state, bar none. I lived my first 42 years there and have been all over the state. I love the Lake 22 hike east of Everett, the Big Four hike to the ice caves there, etc., there are beautiful places all over the west side of the Cascade Mountains, but Hurricane Ridge is my favorite. BTW-I guess the hike to Mt. Carrie is triple-gorgeous, although it's not for beginners. An ice pick is evidently not a bad idea to take on that one. Not for everyone but I hear it's stunningly gorgeous in part because one can see a great view of Mt.Olympus from there. The Olympic Mountains rise so high straight up from the forests at the edge of the Park, so they get dumped on by the clouds coming from the Pacific Ocean, and those clouds dump on them in a large manner. So they have glaciers on them because of all of the continuous moisture and because they rise so high and it's freezing up there. Gorgeous!

We enjoyed looking down 100% of the time and trying not to step on slugs.
