Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me what the general vibe is like in Edmonds? We're currently renting in Ballard but it's coming upon time to buy and my husband is looking for a larger lot and more house for the money. He won't mind the commute into Downtown Seattle if we find what we're looking for out in Edmonds. Being near the water is essential to me, and a safe, family friendly area is generally what we're looking for.

Thanks

Edmonds is pretty hip, but that is a LONG commute... o_O

He did a one hour commute when we lived in the D.C. area, so he's expecting the same and is used to itWe just are not happy with the house/lot sizes that we can afford within Seattle city limits. We are also wanting better schools for the kiddos.

I think we'll be buying in Edmonds. It's quaint, gorgeous, seaside, friendly, has a strong sense of community (a VERY active moms group if you're into that sort of thing), tons of restaurants popping up. It's also pretty easy to get to downtown or over to the Eastside (at least to folks who are used to a little bit of driving). You also get more house for your money there than, say, Kirkland, which I feel has a similar vibe but costs three times as much. It really has become my favorite place.

Edmonds is very nice. It's pretty, it's artsy, the downtown is nice( Osteria Girardi has the best happy hour!), and the commute on the Sounder train ,and express buses into downtown really aren't too bad.
However, Edmonds addresses cover a lot of ground, and it's only really nice either next to downtown Edmonds or right near the water.

What do you think of that Meadowdale area, Ira? And Seaview? I like it up there, too. And Mukilteo is also so pretty and has great value on stunning views. I only just learned that Mountlake Terrace feeds into Edmonds School District, so I was surprised how far inland the borders go.

The Meadowdale and Seaview areas are what we've been looking online at,lol! We're planning a drive up this weekend to check the area out in person Hmm, how much farther is Mukilteo? Maybe we should add that area into the mix?

It isn't that much farther. We looked at a house for rent there that had jaw-dropping views from almost the entire house. Also, the schools are really good if that matters. The bad thing is that it lacks that central town vibe that Edmonds has. I wish that whole Lighthouse Park area were livelier.

I think Meadowdale is really nice. Not as expensive as "The Bowl", and fewer cool shops and restaurants, but it's pretty, with views and beach access.

It is in the summer and early fall... Only problem is, you'll be cursing every single body that goes there because there's not as many parking, LOL.
