My wife recently received a job offer as an Assistant Director at a pre-school in the Bellingham area. We currently live in the uber-conservative city of Colorado Springs. (And both of us are Liberal Democrats).

So far from my research, Bellingham looks like a great area to live. I am originally from the Northwest, (Aberdeen, Corvallis, Ontario) and have been looking to move back for several years.

We are both in our 40's and have one ten year old son still living at home.

The job search for myself (craigslist) so far has not been very productive. I am an experienced service manager and call center operations manager.

Just seeking more information on the area, what the job prospects are like, housing, education, etc.

Thanks in advance,

tumbleweed

Not sure how you've survived Colorado Springs, that would be like the Twilight Zone for me. But you've posted in the Seattle forum, are you looking to live/work in the Seattle metro while your wife works in Bellingham? Have you moved yet?

We have about a month to decide. I would rather work locally in the Bellingham area. (Is there another sub-forum I should have posted in?)

As for the 'Springs. We do have a small, yet vocal, liberal community here.

Well Bellingham doesn't have its own forum but usually is included in the general Washington forum since most would not commute from the Seattle metro to Bellingham. Your post may get moved because of that. I don't know what the job/housing market is like that far North but posters like Lamplight might. Good luck!

Thanks.

If a Mod could move this to a more appropriate area, it would be much appreciated.

your 10 yr old is STILL living at home!!! (if he has an adolescent 'breakdown' consider Dairy Farm Boarding School a great option for teenage boys (available in ID, OR)

Running Start for when / IF he returns for High School Whatcom Community College :: Running Start

Neighborhoods, LOTS to chose from.
Best choices 'homey' = North of downtown, west of I-5.

Liberal Dem... Just don't go to Lynden and you will be safe.
but you will miss Edaleen Dairy Products - Lynden, WA ( Bellingham / Fairhaven are safe for you.)

(BTW:I'm not a lib, (but from Colorado, chased away by too many libs there in the 70's) and have suffered 30+ yrs of torment in PNW, thank Goodness for Hamilton Farms Uncle Sam Billboard in Chehalis, or I would feel all alone !! I met with Hamiltons and extended my DEEP appreciation for being an island of hope in PNW, We had great laughs about the protest / finger signals and phone calls they get from I-5 traffic. They have SEVERAL generous offers to remove their Right Wing Propaganda Chehalis, WA - Right-Wing Uncle Sam Billboard

Fortunately, you will be 180 miles north of Exit 72

Sounds like we are in the exact same boat right now Tumbleweed. My wife has the job and my searching has been somewhat terrifying. I'm just pluggin away like you and supposedly 8000 other people looking for work there. Best of luck man. Jobs are my only complaint about Bham, but I'm coming from western NY where jobs that I thought were sparse now seem plentiful in comparison.
