Everett, hmm. Official City of Everett Web Site has the cascade Mt. to the East the sound to the West. There is a trader Joe's and many grocery stores, a mall (I recommend Lynnwood or Down Town Seattle for shopping as it is only 40 minutes away), many different places to eat from hole in the walls to chains. Down town Everett is being revitalized and there are small shops & Restaurants ( Renee's, Prohibition grill, Clay pot to name a few) an ice rink, arena, library, theatre.

There are pockets of dangerous area but over all it is safe. You can PM me if you have an area that you want more specific info on neighborhoods.

Water sports, hiking, camping, winter sports are all within easy driving.

Everett isn't by any means a desirable place (hence, no one really talking about it)... but it is affordable. Since you mention kids, look at Southern Everett... the schools are much better there. Cedar Wood Elementary has been ranked as one of the top elementary schools in the state.

People look down on Everett, like they do Tacoma. But in reality, Everett is a very nice city. The city really does a good job at keeping streets clean and they have many great parks around the city. They host many events all year round which are perfect for kids, and it is a very nice experience living in Everett. Fun activities like Jetty Island, a free ferry ride to a sandy island, is also real fun in the summer!

If you got more money to spend, I would look along Mukilteo Blvd and the neighborhoods around there. It borders Mukilteo, WA and there are many nice neighborhoods. South Everett by Mill Creek and Lynnwood is more affordable. I don't personally like Highway 99 Everett, it's just a traffic mess. Also north of downtown Everett by the bluffs are some very nice stately homes and nice tree lined neighborhoods. Lots of great places to walk as well.

Shopping can all be done in Everett. The Everett Mall has many major stores around it including Target, Winco, Costco, Best Buy, Trader Joe's, etc.

Downtown is nice and has many historic buildings. Some shops and places to eat as well. Most of Everett's crime is around downtown, and along highway 99. Crime continues to drop in the city.

i currently live in everett on 4th by cascade high school and well its not the best neigborhood first week here someone tried to steal my car theres cops here all the time and a few weeks ago cops with assualt rifles surrounded my neighborhood i would stay away from this area everett can be nice but u really have to look for it. casino road is one of the worst places to be in everett so i would stay as far away from there as possible if your kids are teenagers then dont put them in cascade high ! theres lots of other nice towns by everett that you might want to look into more before moving to everett.

Look at Harboriew, Seahurst, Boulevard Bluffs, Northwest Everett, North Bayside. These are Everett's nicest districts. As I was afraid, the comments above are painting a sketchy image of Everett. The districts named are very nice above and are all different, so worth you visiting and checking out.

Police in Everett are very friendly and all over the place. They are keeping the crime down, and very helpful.
