Hi all, another question....so sorry to ask about multiple areas....

found another great place near Browns Point (on the 7800 block of east side drive).

Any cautions/recs about the area?

How bad would the commute be to Lakewood?

Many thanks!

There are several routes to get back to I5, but that stretch to lakewood is nasty due to the congestion with people getting off at 705 to downtown Tacoma followed closely by the backup to 16 and Bremerton. It will take far longer than it looks on a map.

thank you, bisjoe! Gosh, I am really getting a good sense for the traffic in the Seatac area. It does not sound good! I guess I'll go back to my plan of looking in Sumner, where I have heard the traffic is not quite as terrible to lakewood. for now I'm reliant on rental places, although someday soon I'll be able to buy a place!

thank you again!!

When coming to visit before deciding where to move, there are two good things to do that will help:

1. Drive around during commute times and see how bad it is
2. Drive around on Saturday afternoon/evening and see where there are
sketchy people hanging around

Also, you can spend some time on the DOT camera site during commute hours
and get a great ides of traffic patterns. Right now all roads are green (at speed limit) but it's Sunday 8:30pm. Try it tomorrow at 8am.

Do you mean Browns Point as in Tacoma/Federal Way ?.

Yes, Browns Point near the lighthouse, NE of Tacoma, near Federal Way....

The traffic cam is really helpful. Not sure what moderate means (yellow) but it doesn't look as good as green!

Thanks to you both!!!

Any thoughts about the journey from Browns Point to Lakewood are most welcome, as right now I'm learning toward no!

I guess the problem I'm having is that I'm picky about areas....and I'm not seeing anything I'm in love with near Lakewood. I'd love to live w/ water views again, but that means compromising on the commute. Found a decent place in Sumner, but it's kind of small so I'm continuing to look. My best friend lives in Seattle and is going to scout out the places in Tacoma for me, but she doesn't have time to do the drives for me in rush hour. Relocating is so hard!

Have you looked at Steilacoom, University Place or DuPont? All are on the west side of I5 and an easy commute to Lakewood without ever even having to get on the freeway.

Even some parts of Lakewood are quite nice, particularly the area near Lakewold Gardens. Not that you'll find anything for rent there. I don't know DuPont, but Steilacoom and University Place are both nice. Steilacoom has some cool old buildings. I'm a sucker for cool old buildings.
